Our philosophy regarding the way we display and sell caskets simple - we never want you to feel as if you have to ask if there is "something in the back" that might be cheaper, nor will we try to sell you something better than we would select for ourselves or members of our own family. A casket it isn't a purchase people make every day, which is we show a sampling of everything from the least expensive cloth covered option to solid cherry and many options in between. This concept helps families understand how caskets are priced in relation to the quality of materials used while providing a wide selection of colors, materials and designs to fit every family's desires and budget.

The purpose of an Outer Burial Container (either a grave liner or vault) is to maintain the integrity of the cemetery grounds by creating an outer enclosure around the casket.
While not required by any law, almost all cemeteries require them as a condition of burial on their grounds. Some cemeteries sell their own grave liners and provide their own graveside setup as part of their charges. Other cemeteries are not equipped to do so and defer the responsibility of selling the outer enclosure and setup of the graveside to the funeral home.
We have partnered with Wilbert, the leading national supplier of burial vaults, to offer quality products and graveside setups to the families we serve. The vaults available for your family to select are included below and many come with unique personalization options to make the graveside service memorable and special.
The prices shown are for the liner or vault only and are subject to applicable Washington State sales tax.
There is an additional charge for delivery and setup of any outer burial container selected, which is assessed by Wilbert based on cemetery location - Ellensburg $384; Cle Elum $475; Roslyn $488 - and will be added to your final statement as a cash advance item. In addition to the delivery and setup charges referenced, the vault company also assesses a charge of $400 for burials held on a Saturday.
We are always willing and able to answer any questions you may have about the different types of outer burial containers offered.

It may seem odd to "rent" a casket, but it makes good financial sense when cremation is the final form of disposition.
While not a "casket", the alternative container serves a similar purpose for cremation by serving as the vessel that your loved one is placed into and cremated in. We offer a variety of alternative containers for your family to select but please know that ultimately they all functionally do the same thing. We don't believe it is our place to make assumptions as to what your family may or may not want when planning a cremation for your loved one which is why we offer a variety of alternative containers to select from as shown below.

Natural Organic Reduction utilizes the body’s own naturally occurring microbes to gently transform remains into nutrient-rich soil. The process is conducted in individual pods and takes about 60 days to complete. The resulting soil (approximately one cubic yard) can then be returned to your family to be planted in gardens or donated to a green belt property in Kent, Washington to aid in the restoration and rejuvenation of a Washington forest.
Our price for Natural Organic Reduction includes basic services of the funeral director and staff, transfer of remains to the funeral home, up to five days refrigeration, basic sanitary care (no embalming, NOR will not work when a body has been embalmed) and one hour optional private family viewing during weekday business hours, transfer of remains to the Natural Organic Reduction facility in Auburn, Washington and the fees for the actual Natural Organic Reduction process.
Alkaline hydrolysis, also known as "flameless" or "water based" cremation, is a process for the disposal of human remains using lye and heat.
The charge for Alkaline Hydrolysis may be substituted for traditional flame based cremation with any of our cremation packages, including direct cremation. Embalming does not impact the process and can still be selected when alkaline hydrolysis is selected as the final method of disposition.
This additional charge includes transportation to the nearest alkaline hydrolysis facility (presently located in Kent, Washington), the alkaline hydrolysis process itself and return of the processed remains via US Mail from the facility to our funeral home.
These options are the simplest form of burial or cremation and do not include, unless otherwise specified, any viewing, rites or ceremonies prior to the burial or cremation taking place and are scheduled at the convenience of the funeral home, cemetery and crematory (as applicable).

It does not include the cost of the actual grave at the cemetery, the opening and closing of the grave or any outer burial container that may be required by the cemetery. To lose someone you love is a devastating human experience. It is frequently traumatic and can seriously impact judgement and often comes at a time when survivors are least prepared financially. We believe in the importance of ritual and celebrating a life that has been lived and will assist in an appropriate service to meet your individual needs. Johnston & Williams has never turned away a family based on their ability to pay. We simply ask for your frankness regarding financial matters and pledge that we will work with you, if necessary to arrive at terms that are fair and amicable to all involved.
It is also important to be realistic in respect to funeral expenses, keeping within your family’s budget while still honoring your wishes. In order to be fair to all parties, provisions for payment are due at the time of arrangement. We accept cash, check, all major credit cards as well as assignment of life insurance benefits (for a nominal fee).
