Our beautiful mother, Shirley (Shirl) Bernier, passed away October 15, 2021. She was born April 28, 1960 in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec to Clifford and Lorraine Peria. Her and her twin sister, Sheila, were the youngest of six children. Her father moved their family to Bishop, California in the mid-sixties where she spent most of her younger life.
In 1980 she met her soul mate, Gary (Goathead) Bernier. They raised two children, Ryan and Misty in California and later Washington. After the kids had grown, they moved to Arizona where they lived until 2015 when Gary passed away. After that, Shirl moved back to the Pacific Northwest to be around family.
She loved to have fun and to be the life of the party. It was common to see her dancing and singing with family and friends at get-togethers. Anyone that knew her would tell you she loved motorcycles. This was a love that her and Gary shared during their lives. Most of all, she loved being a Grandma to Jayla, Aubrey, Jace, Raina, Shailan, Skyler, Brooklyn, and Jacob. She was always taking them somewhere and it wasn’t uncommon to find her with them daily, whether it be at a movie, swimming, or just hanging out. They were her life. I know some of her greatest memories are of the things she taught them like swimming.
Shirl was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Bernier; sisters Sheila and Gerri; as well as her mother and father. She leaves behind a lot of loved ones who truly loved her; starting with her two children Ryan Peria and Misty Bernier; her brother John Peria; her sisters Kathleen and Wendy; and 8 grandchildren; nephews Caleb and Bryan; nieces April, BobbyJo, Carrie, and Kasee; and many, many friends and extended family.
I would like the whole family to know that my mother loved each and every one of you very dearly. She loved telling stories of times she shared with everyone.
