Shirley B. Hunter

December 2, 1930 — March 14, 2024

Ellensburg, Washington

Shirley B. Hunter, 93, passed away at her Ellensburg home on Thursday, March 14, 2024.  Private family services will be held later this spring.

Shirley was born on December 2, 1930 in Auburn, Washington to Thomas & Bernice M. (Guyton) Howard. Her family moved to the Kittitas Valley in 1934 and she attended the Denmark School and Ellensburg High School. In her early years, she worked as a housekeeper and then at Ellensburg Floral before finding her niche as a cook - first at Mom’s Cafe, then The Palace and finally the Blue Grouse, the restaurant from which she retired.

Shirley was a beautiful person who was full of life and enjoyed her family.  She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed camping, sewing, crocheting, collecting her favorite lava rocks, Christmas reading and listening to her favorite music.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Joyce Kusske and Jocelyn Howard and her brother Mark Howard.  She is survived by her six children and their families - Ivan Hunter, Linda Flood, Michael Hunter, Laura Hunter-Farrell, Kelly Hunter and Jaime Hunter, all of Ellensburg/Kittitas as well as her brother Tom (Rose Marie) Howard of Kent.

We will miss you mom! And we will always love you! As you would always say - and how we will remember you - “I did it MY WAY!”

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left at www.johnston-williams.com
