Sara Jean Shao

Sara Jean Shao, 85, of Ellensburg, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. Private services were held earlier this week.

Sara was born on March 4, 1939 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Dr. Robert & Loretta Ostrander. She grew up in Ludington and graduated from Ludington High School with the Class of 1957. She was a class officer, sang in the choir, a varsity cheerleader and Homecoming Queen.

Her love for animals started at a young age and continued throughout her life. Her passion for genealogy, gardening, church activities and helping those in need kept her busy and driven.

Sara is survived by her sons Robert and Lorne Shao, her brothers Peter and David Ostrander, along with her nieces and nephews and her precious cat Bella.

Friends and family alike will remember her kind, caring and selfless personality. Her boys were with her to the end and will forever be thankful to be blessed with such a wonderful mother.

Sara’s wish was to assist the cat rescue where she got Bella so, if so inclined, memorial contributions are suggested to the Yakima Blind Cat Rescue, c/o Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg. She would be so pleased to continue supporting the non-profit that gave her such joy.
