Pauline M. Kinghorn, 86, lifetime Cle Elum resident and educator, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the KVH Hospital in Ellensburg with her family at her side. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Laurel Hill Memorial Park with a reception to follow at the Cle Elum Eagles.
Pauline was born on January 8, 1933 in Cle Elum, Washington to George & Mary (Babey) Knis. She was raised in Cle Elum and graduated from high school in 1950. She went on to attend Central Washington State College (now CWU) and graduated in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in education. After a brief time teaching in Renton, Pauline returned to Cle Elum and spent the rest of her 33 year career teaching third and fourth grade in the Upper County. She retired in 1990.
Pauline married William David “Dave” Kinghorn on June 15, 1959 and in 1965 they were blessed with one son, David Douglas Kinghorn. He passed away in a tragic accident on Lake Cle Elum in 1990.
Pauline enjoyed many things in life – including spending quality time with her family and friends and she was a longtime member of the Cle Elum Eagles. Her favorite pastimes were playing at the casinos in Nevada, and in more recent years Snoqualmie, as well as watching her beloved Seattle Seahawks. She rarely missed a game.
Pauline is survived by her sister, Ann Cruse of Ellensburg; nephews Chuck (Lana) Cruse, Jr. of Ellensburg and Ron (Barb) Cruse of Veradale; great-nephew Chris (Lisa) Cruse of Ellensburg, her great-niece Wendi Cruse of New Tripoli, PA, as well as many dear friends and neighbors who were like family to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son.
Memorial contributions in Pauline’s honor are suggested to the Cle Elum Fire Department or to the Cle Elum Carpenter Memorial Library.
