Laura Rae Chaney

Laura Rae Chaney, 64, longtime Ellensburg resident, passed away at Hearthstone Cottage on Thursday, September 22, 2022 with her family by her side. 

Laura was born on October 29, 1957 in Pasadena, California to Harvey & Eve (Dunham) Chaney.  She grew up in West Covina, California where she spent her youth enjoying the sunshine and the beach.  The Chaney family moved to Ellensburg in 1976 and it was in Ellensburg that Laura welcomed her two children - Tynan and Emily - and raised them in the beauty of the Kittitas Valley.

Laura was a very loving individual and spent her whole life caring for others.  Early in her life, she was the “big sister” and kept an eye on her younger siblings.  Later, she worked as a caregiver for the elderly and also spent many years caring for children when she worked at Valley View Elementary and Morgan Middle School in the life skills room.

Laura was very crafty and artistic.  She worked in a wide variety of mediums - everything from chalk drawings and custom stepping stones to hand sewing purses and general doodle drawings.  She had a great laugh, warm smile and a very beautiful energy.  Her family will remember her fondly for her cooking skills - the consensus being that she never made a bad meal – but that her tacos and enchiladas were by far the best.

Laura is survived by her son Tynan and his companion Kimberly; daughter Emily and her companion Jacob; sisters Mona, Diane, Lynda, Lisa and Elizabeth; grandchildren Hannah, Hayden, Elijah, Jayson, Eva and Harlee, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
