John Swords Obituary

John Patrick Swords, 39, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at his Ellensburg home. Private family services have been held.

John was born on May 12, 1983 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to Michael & Vivian (McManus) Swords. The family moved around due to Michael's career service in the Marine Corps. This allowed John to spend his youth in a variety of different places around the country (and world) including Rhode Island, New York, Virginia, and Japan. He graduated from Quantico High School where he lettered athletically in baseball, soccer and golf – golf being his favorite.

Following graduation, John attended Appalachian State College where he attended for a few years before taking a break, eventually completing his education at the Art Institute of Washington DC, earning his associates degree in culinary arts. He worked as a chef in the DC Metro/Northern Virginia area until 2020 when he moved to Ellensburg to be closer to his parents.

John is survived by his parents, Michael and Vivian Swords of Ellensburg; his sisters Molly Swords of Richland, Washington and Katy Heuer (Mike) of Sparks, Nevada; nephews Henry and Connor as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
