Thomas Easton Long, lover of nature, adventure, and the land, was born on November 27, 1950 in Marin City, California, and grew up in Sacramento, California. Tom passed away unexpectedly on April 29, 2026 at the age of 75, likely due to pneumonia.
Tom was a quiet and introspective man whose life was deeply connected to the natural world. He found joy and meaning in wild places, from hiking across Iceland to floating the Yukon River. He loved rock-hounding, mushroom gathering, and exploring the landscapes that inspired his creativity and curiosity.
A gifted artisan, Tom created hammered copper repoussé works and handcrafted jewelry from the special stones he gathered on his adventures. He believed deeply in inclusivity, the preservation of natural lands, and treating people and places with respect and care.
Tom and his wife, Cheryl Long, who passed away two and a half years earlier, loved living in Ellensburg, Washington, where they found beauty in the surrounding landscape and connection with the community. Tom is survived by his mother, Jeannie, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday; his siblings Jim, Bob, and Barbara; his step-daughter Tristan; and his grandchildren Kendall and Dylan.
A memorial service for Tom will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 near Goldendale, Washington. For further information, please contact Tristan Jorgensen on Facebook.
Tom's spirit lives on in the natural world he loved.
