Roy Lee Smalley, 63, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026 in Kent, Washington. His family will host a celebration of at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Trinity Community Church, 3807 S. Reith Rd, Kent, WA 98032.
Roy was born on May 9, 1963, in Deadwood, South Dakota, to our mother, Vivian Bruns. His passing was sudden and unexpected, leaving a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Roy leaves behind his beloved children, Nicole Smalley and Kristopher Smalley, who were always a source of pride and joy in his life. He is also survived by his loving mother, Vivian Bruns; his stepfather, John Bruns; his brother, Scott Smalley and Scott's partner, Megan McClurg; his sister, Brenda Rapose and brother-in-law, Rob Rapose.
He also leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews: Donovan Stevens, Aaron Fuller Jr., Joseph Rapose, and Scott Smalley Jr. He was also blessed with wonderful great-nieces and great-nephews: Alaina Smalley, Kaiden Smalley, Chevelle Fuller, Miles Fuller, and Cooper Stevens, each of whom brought him joy and laughter in their own special way.
Roy had a smile that could light up a room and a sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, and he never missed an opportunity to bring a little fun into every family gathering.
If you knew Roy, you knew about his unforgettable gift-giving. Every birthday and Christmas, he somehow managed to find the loudest, biggest, or most "annoying" toy he could for the kids. The children absolutely loved it, while the parents... maybe not so much! Looking back now, those gifts have become some of our favorite memories because they perfectly captured Roy's playful spirit and his love for making others smile.
Family meant everything to Roy. Whether it was sharing stories, celebrating birthdays, or simply spending time together, those moments were precious to him. The photographs we have shared remind us of his warm smile, his laughter, and the love he had for all of us.
Although we wish we had more time with him, we are grateful for the memories he gave us. His kindness, his humor, and his generous heart will continue to live on through his children, his family, and everyone fortunate enough to have called him a friend.
Roy, thank you for being our brother, our son, our dad, our uncle, and our friend. Thank you for every laugh, every joke, every hug, and yes—even for those wonderfully annoying gifts that have become part of our family's stories.
We will miss your smile, your laughter, and your presence every single day. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that love never ends. You will live on in our memories, in our stories, and in the love we continue to share because of you.
Rest in peace, Roy. You were deeply loved, and you will be forever missed. Until we meet again.
