Robert Gordon

March 19, 1935 — October 15, 2025

Ellensburg, Washington

Robert “Bob” Gordon, 90, longtime Ellensburg resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the KVH Hospital in Ellensburg. His family will honor his life privately.

Bob was born on March 19, 1935 in Montrose, South Dakota to James & Edrie (Miller) Gordon. The family moved to the Kittitas Valley when Bob was young and he completed his schooling in the valley. He met Norma Jean Kontos at her sister’s wedding and they were instantly smitten with each other. They later married on October 30, 1953 and were blessed with three children – Patrick, Scott and Tracy – all three of whom they raised in the Kittitas Valley.

Bob spent most of his working years as a truck driver, with many of those years as an owner/operator. Early on, Bob hauled hay and junk cars before driving logging truck. When the timber industry slowed down, he shifted gears and finished his career hauling hay containers for Ward Rugh. Although Bob owned many trucks in his lifetime, he was proudest of the two he bought brand new – his Western Star and his Kenworth.

Following his retirement from trucking in the summer of 2010, Bob enjoyed a quiet home life where he would spend many hours tending to the family homestead on Brown Road.

Bob is survived by his wife of 72 years, Norma Gordon, at the family home in Ellensburg; sons Patrick (Claudette) Gordon of New Mexico and Scott (Shannon) Gordon of Wyoming; daughter Tracy (Donovan) Valdez of Tennessee; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister Sharon Hash of Kennewick; as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Jim Gordon and Larry W. “Bill” Gordon.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
