Michael Hanns Robertson, age 78, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
Michael was born on June 18, 1947, in Yakima, Washington. He lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and devotion to his family. He was known for his strength of character, integrity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. His wisdom and steady presence touched the lives of all who knew him.
Michael enjoyed a successful career in the computer industry and, before retiring, served as a Program Manager for Hewlett-Packard. He took great pride in his work and valued the friendships and accomplishments he made throughout his career.
Outside of work, Michael enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He was endlessly curious about the world and fascinated by science and technology. He followed the space program with great enthusiasm throughout his life and would have dearly loved to witness a SpaceX launch in person. Michael's curiosity remained sharp and focused on the technological frontier, and he maintained a keen intellectual engagement with political and global affairs. His sense of wonder about exploration, innovation, and discovery remained with him throughout his life.
Music was another lifelong passion. Michael delighted in sharing his extensive music collection and was the unofficial DJ at family gatherings, carefully selecting the soundtrack for celebrations and creating memories cherished by family and friends.
Michael also shared a special bond with his beloved Irish Terrier, Alfie, whose companionship brought him comfort, laughter, and joy.
Michael especially cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Elizabeth; his sons, Hedley (Katherine) and Cory; his brothers, David, and Tom (Jana); and his sister, Jane (Jordan) and lots of nephews and nieces. He is also lovingly remembered by Elizabeth's siblings and their families, who shared many years of friendship, family gatherings, and cherished memories.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Robertson; his mother, Viola Robertson; and his sister, Judith Hovde.
The family would like to thank the many healthcare professionals, caregivers, friends, and loved ones who supported Michael throughout his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
Michael will be remembered for his love, wisdom, curiosity, and indomitable spirit. His memory will continue to inspire us, just as he was inspired by the endless possibilities found among the stars.
