David V. Curry

August 22, 1964 — July 5, 2025

Black Diamond, Washington

Mass of Christian Burial for David Vernon "Dave" Curry will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cle Elum with committal at Laurel Hill Memorial Park. A reception will follow the graveside at Ritter Farms – in honor of Dave’s love of sports, please wear your favorite team shirt or jersey. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, July 18, also at St. John's. Mr. Curry, 60, a Cle Elum native, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at his Black Diamond home.

David was born in Ellensburg, Washington on August 22,1964 to Douglas D. Curry and Lois A. Peterson. He grew up and attended schools in both North Bend and Cle Elum with his parents and two siblings, Debbie and Lynn. During high school, and following graduating from Cle Elum High, Dave worked as a firefighter for the Washington Department of Natural Resources before attending Spokane Community College to study forestry. After obtaining his associates degree, he went to work as a firefighter and crew boss for the U.S. Forest Service on the North Bend Ranger District. Later Dave was a feller for several local logging companies.

He met Debra Pumala and the two were married in September 1993 and they had two children, Taylor and Nathan.

In 1990, Dave retrained as an aircraft mechanic and worked for both Boeing and Alaka Air. In 2010 he transferred to Teledyne Controls as an avionics technician until 2021.

Dave was very active in sports, including football, baseball, and wrestling through his early school years in the Snoqualmie Valley and Highschool in Cle Elum. He was a WIAA state champion wrestler. Much like his dad, he loved to coach youth wrestling and his son. Dave shared his love of all athletics and outdoor sports with both of his children. He particularly loved getting away with them to the mountains to hunt, fish, ski, camp and relax.

Dave is survived by his children Taylor and Nathan Curry; his sisters Deborah Curry-Kelly and Marilyn Foust; four nephews, three nieces, and two great nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Doug and Lois Curry, grandparents Darrell and Nelly Curry, Vernon Peterson, and John and Mary (Peterson) Mattielli, all of Cle Elum.

Memorial contributions in Dave’s honor are suggested to the Cle Elum Roslyn High School Booster Club (specifically the wrestling program), the Tahoma Bears Wrestling Booster Club, or to Peers Rising (formerly KCRCO).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
