Christina Louise Hoffman, known to those who loved her as Chris, peacefully passed away with family at her side on August 30, 2026, at the age of 79.
She was the second of eight children. Chris was born in Pasco, Washington on December 12, 1946, to John C Hoffman and Hilda H Hoffman. She spent her earliest years on a Mesa wheat farm. She arrived in Ellensburg with her family in 1952. She attended grade school at Lourdes Academy and graduated from Ellensburg High school in 1964.
She graduated from Gonzaga University with Art and Teaching degrees. Her love of learning and adventure took her to Connecticut, with her sister Barbara, where she taught elementary school. She later returned to Washington where she taught for the rest of her long career at Lea Hill Elementary in Auburn Washington. Chris made lifelong friends during her teaching years. She cultivated the love of art in her 4th and 5th grade students who delighted in her warmth, humor, creativity and genuine care for them. She was an accomplished photographer, painter and potter. She especially enjoyed sharing her creative spirit with her 12 nieces and nephews who loved their fun, kooky, adventuresome aunt.
She loved to travel and especially liked the Southwest states. Exploring cities, forests, hiking and the peaceful beauty of nature were her favorite things. She loved horses and was involved in The Wranglerettes. Some of her happiest times were spent at the family cabin near Salmon La Sac.
Chris died of complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. This along with chronic pain and anxiety robbed her of many years of enjoyment. She should be remembered for her amazing sense of humor and always finding a reason to celebrate.
Chris dedicated her early retirement years with the help of her sister Joyce, to the care of their mother Hilda who also suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Carl Hoffman and her Mother Hilda Hildegarde Wirth Hoffman Salter.
She is survived by Janette (Gaylen) Ringer, Barbara (Brian) Bailey, Sylvia (Mike) Lakey, Joyce Nooner, John (Charlita) Hoffman, Randy Hoffman and Irma Grogan.
Chris enjoyed the Ellensburg wind, to remember her, go out into the wind and think of her with love and joy.
The family wants to thank Ellensburg Senior Living staff and residents for their care and kindness, and in her final days our family appreciated care given by KVH Hospital and Hospice.
A graveside service will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Ellensburg.
Memorial contributions in her honor are suggested to the FISH Food Bank.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
