Carolyn J. Sandage

August 21, 1942 — February 16, 2026

Roslyn, Washington

Carolyn Janette Sandage (Coughlin), aged 83, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, in Roslyn, Washington, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 21, 1942, in Big Timber, Montana, Carolyn lived a life filled with devotion to her family and a strong work ethic that left an enduring legacy.

Carolyn was the beloved wife of Dennis Sandage, with whom she shared an extraordinary 67 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered on love and family. She was a devoted mother to Robin Hanna (Blue), Lance Sandage (Shelley) and Denise Sobania (Sam), and a cherished grandmother to Dustin, Shaylie, Corey, Rick, and Nichole. Carolyn also took great pride in her role as a great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren.

Her early years were shaped by her upbringing in Montana as the daughter of John and Lucy Coughlin (Craft). Carolyn was the youngest of 11 siblings and is predeceased by her parents; sisters Effie, Dorothy, and Nelly; and brothers John Jr., Edward (Bud), James, Tom, Donald, Delmar and Reynold. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Robin Hanna.

Carolyn’s career reflected her determination and entrepreneurial spirit. After dedicating herself as a stay-at-home mother during her children’s early years, she entered the workforce in the early 1980s at Central Sundries convenience and liquor store. In 1989, she took a bold step forward by purchasing the store herself. Her business acumen led her to take over the Cle Elum liquor store in the mid-1990s, which she successfully managed until her retirement. Through these endeavors, Carolyn demonstrated resilience and dedication while contributing to her community.

Beyond her professional achievements, Carolyn found joy in many hobbies that showcased her creativity and love for life. She had a passion for crafts and crochet and spent countless hours piecing together jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed fishing trips that connected her with nature and long walks that brought peace to her days. Winters were often spent in Arizona, a tradition that brought warmth and relaxation during the colder months.

Above all else, Carolyn will be remembered as a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enriched the lives of those around her with kindness and love. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Carolyn’s legacy brings comfort to all who mourn her passing.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Cle Elum. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
