On Sunday, January 25, 2026, Lavonne Lorraine “Bonnie” Johnson passed away peacefully at her home in Ellensburg, Washington, surrounded by family.
Bonnie was born on June 5, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to John and Amy Thompson. One of sixteen siblings, she moved with her family to Ellensburg in 1956, where she would build a life rooted in love and community.
On March 5, 1963, she married the love of her life, Larry Johnson. Though the couple briefly lived in Seattle, they soon returned to Ellensburg to raise their family. Their daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1964, followed by their son, John, in 1968.
Bonnie dedicated more than 40 years to the Albertsons bakery, serving as a hostess and department manager until her retirement in 2005. Known for her warm smile and generous spirit, she delighted in giving free cookies to children who visited the bakery.
She is survived by her daughter Jennifer; her son John; her grandson David Johnson; and her two great-grandchildren, Shay and Roman, who were the loves of her life. She is also survived by her brothers Donald Thompson, Kenneth “Bill” Thompson, and Ray Thompson (Vicki), as well as her sister-in-law, Karen Johnson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews that she cherished and loved.
Bonnie’s greatest joy was her family. With a kind heart and a constant smile, she lived and left this world surrounded by love. She is deeply missed and will be forever cherished by those who long for her warm embrace.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at The Ridge Event Center, 404 N. Pine Street, Ellensburg. Please join us to share stories, memories, and fellowship as we honor Bonnie’s life and legacy.
