Arlou Cox

(Kathryn) Arlou Cox, went home on September 6, 2026, at the age of 69. After yet another diagnosis of cancer, being her 5th time, this one wore her out. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Travis Cox; two kids - son Jesse (Samantha) Cox and daughter Alysea Cox; two beautiful grandkids - Jorja and Israel; and her brother Ellis (Sharon) Burch, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her mother Sylva Burch in 1974; father Aubrey Burch in 2009; and sister Crystal Seaman in 2025.

Raised on a small ranch on the Vantage Highway, her parents moved here in October of 1962, she stayed there until she graduated Kittitas schools. Being the only child at home for most of the time, the ranch was a magical place for her imagination. There stands an old original barn that was there while growing up and she, at the age of 12, decided to paint their brand on the door of that old barn door. 57 years later the brand is still there, standing the test of time, just like she did over and over again with the battles she fought with cancer.

Arlou found her niche in life when she bought her first herd of Miniature Hereford cattle (old style Hereford), being the first to bring the breed to the Kittitas Valley in 2005. She bred and raised cattle with some of the best genetics in the business and, since the beginning, there are now multiple herds in the valley. Her love for the Herefords paid off.

Arlou attended Kittitas schools, the close bond made in the small school carried for a lifetime in the friendships that she had.

Last but definitely not least, she was a member of Chestnut Street Baptist Church, she started attending in 1963 at the age of 5, became a member in 1970. In 1963 the church service was being held in a brown house where the now sanctuary stands. At this, small and humble beginnings of a church, she learned to love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to accept that He is so much larger than anything that we can encounter in the earthly world that we merely survive in. She is home now in the heavenly kingdom that our Father in Heaven has so dearly promised.

Arlou’s graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at High Valley Cemetery in Ellensburg.
