With love, we share more about our beautiful mother, Alicia Gutierrez Miller, who passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, at the age of 98.
Born on August 9, 1927, in Hills Prairie, Texas, our mother was truly the matriarch of a loving family and a large extended family. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and colleague, and genuinely beloved by everyone who met her. She was strong and steady through whatever life brought her way, and she had a smile and gentle warmth that made anyone feel welcome.
Our mother was resourceful, responsible, and deeply faithful. A practicing Catholic, she began and ended each day with readings from the Daily Word and by praying the rosary. Her faith grounded her, sustained her, and shaped the way she moved through the world, with humility, grace, and quiet strength.
She was the oldest girl in a family of nine and remained fiercely close to her large Texas family throughout her life, even after moving our family to Washington State in 1971. That move took her far from the extended family she loved so dearly, but she built a life for all of us that was full of love, support, and stability.
Though life was not always easy, she made sure we had everything we needed. She raised the three of us with determination and devotion, and at one point worked full-time while also taking on additional jobs to provide for the family. She carried that same loving generosity into the next generations, always showing up for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.
Over the course of her life, she held many jobs, each reflecting her strong work ethic and resilience, from working as an elevator operator in a drug store in Austin, to the University of Texas bookstore in the engineering department, and later serving for 22 years as an assistant librarian at the Renton Public Library, where she eventually retired
She was married to our father, Ernest Largé Sr., and later to our stepfather, John Miller, both of whom preceded her in death. After John’s passing in 1994, she continued to live independently in Renton and Seattle, and later moved to Ellensburg to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She remained independent until the age of 96, later moving to Hearthstone, where she was still able to enjoy her independence while remaining close to the family who loved her so dearly.
She found joy in simple, beautiful things: gardening, cooking, and sewing. She was especially known for her love of lavender, which she gathered regularly and lovingly sewed into fragrant sachets for family and friends, small gifts that many of us still treasure. She often signed notes and letters with “Mucho Mucho,” and loved to offer the Spanish toast, “Salud, amor, dinero y tiempo para gozar” — Health, love, money, and the time to enjoy it.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, loyalty, perseverance, nurturing, and joy.
She is survived by her children, Victoria (Largé) Nelson and her husband, Guy Nelson, Ernest Largé, and Michele Largé; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Nelson) Hoyt, Mindee Watt, Brinleigh (Reuter) Murphy-Reuter, Andrew Largé, and Lauren (Largé) Desmond; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kyle Nelson.
We will gather to celebrate her life on Monday, April 6, 2026, in Austin, Texas. All who knew and loved her are welcome.
