Sydney Elizabeth (Adams) Moe

March 29, 1938 — September 30, 2023

Ellensburg, Washington

Sydney Elizabeth Adams Moe, 85, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at her Ellensburg home.  Her memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the Ellensburg Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.

Sydney was born March 29, 1938, in Aberdeen, Washington to John B. & Eldean (Theiring) Adams. She was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1956.  She was active in several groups including music, swimming, service and church activities.  Sydney then graduated from the University of Washington in the spring of 1960. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, and the Rally Girls.  She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education and went on to teach at Chinook Junior High.

While attending the University of Washington she met and dated Eric Stephen Moe.  They were married February 4, 1961, and honeymooned at Fort Benning, Georgia.  Steve and Sydney moved to Ellensburg in August of 1961.  They lived in town for six years, while they designed and built their home on Moe Road. It was a perfect home to raise their three children and for Steve to farm.  In October of 2002, after spending eight years remodeling a house in town, Steve and Sydney moved back to town.

For Sydney, family was the center of her life, and she will be missed by her best friend and husband of 62 years, Steve; her three children - Eric Adams Moe and his wife Kae; Christopher Stephen Moe; and Stephanie Elizabeth Moe.  Sydney was especially grateful for her one grandson Sage Tjossem Quiggle.  Sydney felt that her children and all their interests and activities made her life truly full.  Family vacations to Sun River, Mt. Bachelor, Camano Island, and Cannon Beach were very special times.

Sydney was a stay-at-home mom, and she was very involved in school and community activities.  She was passionate about supporting the arts and felt that giving back to the community with time and money is very important.  Some of Sydney’s commitments to the community included volunteering at Lincoln school for 17 years, parent groups, Ellensburg Study Club, Chapter BF, P.E.O., Laughing Horse Summer Theatre Board, Jazz in the Valley Board, Chamber of Commerce, and the Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and served as a Deacon.

Sydney was a very gifted artist and designer.  She enjoyed watercolor painting, and she was skilled at combining colors for decoration, clothing, and her paintings.  She also enjoyed going to Water Fit, at the public pool.

Sydney’s favorite verse, hymn, and quotes:

Matthew 6:33

“Morning has Broken.”

“Don’t do anything stupid.”

“The glass is half full, not half empty.”
