January 30, 1950 — June 24, 2023

Ellensburg, Washington

Mass of Christian Burial for Linda Helen (Alley) Riley will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Ellensburg with inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Mrs. Riley passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the age of 73.

Linda was born on January 30, 1950, to Otto & Phyllis Alley in Ellensburg. After Linda graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1968 as her class president, she went on to study English at Washington State University. Following her graduation with a degree in English, she started her career as a middle school English teacher for the Seattle School District.

In 1964, Linda met her soulmate, Don. They continued to meet up over college breaks and holidays in Ellensburg, while Don was at UW and Linda at WSU.  In 1971 Linda had a stroke that rocked their world, but their love conquered all.  They were married August 26, 1972 and celebrated 50 years of marriage last summer.  After living in New Jersey and Chicago, they made their way back to the greater Seattle area where they lived for 30 years. In 1980 the stars aligned, and they chose to grow their family by adoption.  Amelia completed their home on August 7, 1980.

Linda spent her years donating her time, talent, and energy to several organizations including PTA, Camp Fire Boys & Girls, scholarship organizations, and ombudsman work.

Linda loved to be surrounded by family, especially time with her granddaughters Riley (18) and Jocelyn (17). She had passions for helping others, travel, and laughter.  Despite her health and physical challenges Linda never let anything stop her. Her determination and positive approach to life were her greatest gift to others.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Otto (1986) and Phyllis (2017).  She is survived by her loving husband, Don; her daughter, Amelia (Warren); her sister, Cindy; her granddaughters Riley and Jocelyn. She will be greatly missed by all her extended family and friends.

Memorial contributions in Linda’s honor are suggested to the American Heart Association, an organization Linda felt strongly about.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg.  Online condolences may be left at www.johnston-williams.com
