Bill G. Nelson

October 21, 1940 — November 2, 2023

Cle Elum, Washington

Billie Glen Nelson, “Bill”, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 2, 2023, surrounded by his family.  He was 83.

Bill was born in Yakima, Washington to Harold and Hannah Nelson on October 21, 1940. He joined four siblings and spent his entire young life in Roslyn.  Bill spoke often of his childhood friends and jobs. He delivered newspapers and worked at the Roslyn Bakery delivering groceries. He had fond memories of the customers he came in contact with during those years.

Bill attended Cle Elum-Roslyn schools and went on to attend both YVCC and CWSC. Following college in 1960, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Sally Gillett and they had two daughters.  Bill spent his career employed by the Washington State Patrol and retired after 25 years of service in 1992.  He later worked as a seasonal employee for WSDOT and drove a logging truck in the Cle Elum area.

Bill often told his family that he had been fortunate to live in the “best of times.” He loved playing cards, swimming and a good joke!  He especially enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing in the Cle Elum-Roslyn area.  He and Sally spent their retirement traveling and camping in many State and National Parks and enjoyed many hours around the campfire with family and friends. Yellowstone was one of Bill and Sally’s favorite spots.  Bill cherished his lifelong friendships with many childhood schoolmates.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack and Russell, and sister Doris Talerico. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally, and his two daughters, Tricia (Tim) and Sally Ann (Mike). He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, their spouses, and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Bill are his two sisters, Patricia Aho (Ed) and Marlene Sybouts, both of Yakima, and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

At his request, no services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Cle Elum. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
